 Fredricks journal chapter 5: Out of the frying pan and into the fire

We did not get very far from the village, before hunter signal to Nex that we were followed. It would feel awful if Dan and Nex had to fight their own village. So we picked up our pace and continued forward. Hours later when dawn came and the sun started to rise, we took a small break. But once again Hunter signaled that they were still after us. So we got up again. A bit into the day the weather changed, and the worst storm i have ever seen erupted. The sky darkend and the wind drew up the sand so we did not see anything. The storm even made my compass and geiger counter go haywire. To avoid going in circles or into a hotspot, we took shelter by some rocks. We stayed like this for hours. But with the other skinners after us and not knowing if they also stopped, we ventured out into the storm again. We moved very slow and without knowing where to. It was even hard breating in the strong wind. The weather started to clear a bit into the night but still my compass did not work. My skinner friends did not recognize where we were either. Again the morning came and finally the compass started to work. It shows that we have not hold our course of west. Instead we have gone south.

- So shall we try  going west from here? i ask my companions. They both nodded yes. As the day went on we found a small trail that we followed.

- Wait ! Nex said. We stopped immediately. He looked at the trail.

- There is something wrong i feel it. Let me and Hunter go first and you two  stay close and keep your eyes open. Nex said.

We moved slowly forward. It started to become very narrow and rocks on each side. Nex raised his hand and motion that he wanted to show us something. Someone had drawn barbwire over the trail. 

We looked at each other. But before any of us said anything a bullet came flying at us. We took shelter the best we could. First i thought it was the skinners that had catch up to us. But then i heard the voice.

- You there throw down your guns and come out, We will not shoot.

- GO TO HELL. Nex shouted back

- You have no chance. You are surrounded. The voice answered. Yes, now i knew who it was.

- Captian Braccus is that you? I asked.

- Who's there identify yourself?

- It's Fredrick. I answered. Braccus was one of the captians for the other two teams leaving CB.

- Are you still alive? why are you walking around with two cavemen for? No don't tell me. I already know how much you love sloggerna and all other muties too. 

I smile to myself  - Yes, and i hear you haven't changed a bit. Have you not learned anything from your expidition out here. I asked.

- LEARNED! Your green dirty friends attacked us after only a day out here. We meet up with the other group. They had also the same experience. We sent one back to CB for help. We got reinforcments and a massage from Hayes to push forward and don't spare any mutants. Unfourtunatly it has not gone well. The group got split and we have been on the losing side against all kinds of muties and critters. But if i show up i CB with your head as a trophy. Hayes would not have me come out to this hell on earth again. Sorry Fredrick but you're my ticket out of here.

But only a second later we all heard a hell of a scream and one Rip n tear appear on the cliffs over us.

No one knows if they are mutants or a failed experiment. But they are the horror of all travelers in the waste. The name is very fitting because they are extremly agressive. They attack everything they see, except each other.

- We gotta get out of here said Dan. Nex and i nodded. 

Dan and Hunter moves on, while i and Nex gets pinned downed by the nutty captian. On a hill i see a soldier with a heavy machine gun appear. And one comes on a horse from nowhere. One more rip n tear comes down by the cliffs. 

It goes after Braccus. He shoots and misses. The monster misses too as it tries to slash him with it's claws. Nex moves forward, and Dan keeps running. He's like the wind. I see Braccus get killed by the ripper monster

We have to get out of here fast if we want to live. I jump over the barbwire and try to keep up with Nex. Dan and Hunter is a long way before us. Away from both the soldiers and monsters. The one on the horse fires at the rip n tear on the cliffs, so his friend can runaway. Unfortunatly it don't help, it gets a hold of him and kills him. And now it has it's sight set on Nex and me. The other one attacks and kills the soldier on the horse. It looks very dark for us now. We hear Dan shout that we need to hurry, as we  run towards him. 

But we get caught by one of the rippers.

I wound him with my gun. But when i turn around i see Dan fall to the ground, as the other ripper claws him. Hunter attacks it. But now it's on it's way to take the last soldier.

It's claws goes like a warm knife through butter, as it slaughters the soldier. From out of nowhere a car comes. The door opens.

- Hurry both of you get in.

As any skinner Nex reacts with fear when he sees the car. I only seen cars and read about them in books (No cars in CB only horses and other cattle). No time to think here, I push Nex into the backseat. 

- Drive over there our friend may still be alive i tell the driver.

- Ok but hurry we need to get out of here fast. He says sounding shocked up and a bit annoyed.Probably for taking orders from a stranger.

Hunter jumps in as i drag Dan in.

- GO ! I shout as i close the door.

- Hold on. The driver says as we drive by an rusty burned out car. Away from the monsters

- He's hurt really bad. Nex says from the backseat.

- There's a first aid kit back there, do what you can. I gonna take us to the worm hole. I don't know were you guys come from, but if you don't know it's the closest town around here. Well a shanty town at least. And they have a doctor.  ..... Or at least someone that tries to be one. I'm gonna go as fast as i can but it's a bit of a drive. Hope he makes it. Yes that's all we can do right now i think to myself.
