Jailbreak

 The cool night air sets in over Jet city. Down on street level Tom stands in the shadows. 

He does not mind the air, it's sweet to Breathe. He is waiting, watching. His brother Eddie had been taken in a raid by the Jet city army. They had always helped and stood up for each other. Tom thought about when they grow up and their father split open toms lip, during a beating. He could still hear the sound of the punches and taste the blood when it fill his mouth. How he dazed had heard Eddie scream " Get off him. he's not done anything" as he tried to defend him. Fully aware he too would get hit for interfering in the fathers evening activity. Another time When they where teens a whole gang had jumped Eddie, For looking at a girl one of them where sweet on. Tom came to his aid without a thought of his own saftey. Damn what a beating they got. Just two dumb kids. They had laughed at it later on, but it was not so funny right then. they had always been there for each other. With a mean bastard as a father, it was not hard for them to wanna join the gang known as "Chainbreakers". It was great to become members. It felt like a family. Well, how they thought a family felt. Back then they where a great group. but as the years pasted they grow older, and they saw their friends die. Now the brothers just wanted to get out of it. They had talked about leaving the city somehow and start over out in the wasteland. Only trouble is the gang never let them go, it's for life. With Eddie in custody Tom had to act quick. Usually the army wait til they have a bigger group of convicts, then they send them out to either Outpost town or Forest outpost to work. Work was a nice way of putting it. You were a slave, they never let you go. Tom could not let that happen to Eddie. He was gonna bust him out and then they would skip town. He had found out that Eddie was held at the police station in the Azalea sector (27) in Pleasureville district.

 The Pleauserville districts subway station lies there too. But he needed help and the Chainbreakers would not help him. No gang ever did jailbreaks. It was just not worth it. And besides if he succeded they would leave town, and the gang would kill them if they find that out. He had taken all the coins he and Eddie had and cashed in some favors too to finace his plan. First he had payed the Lurker gang "Ghouls" up in Dogtown to take them out of the city with their tunnels. But he also needed some people to help him. Carl was a friend of the brothers.

he was the only one Tom trusted to tell about his plan. Carl said he help him and leave town with them if they succeed. Then he hired 4 more. Toto That was really good with computer and technology.

And a street fighter named Brody.

They where both young, cheap and not much experince.  NK58 was a robot.

He said his name stood for "Natural killer" and 58 was how many he had shoot. Tom said nothing about it. But belived it was a lie. Last was the one that cost the most. A veteran that called himself Meatgrinder.

They had plant a small bomb in another part of the district to lure out as many soldiers from the police station as possible. It worked as it was suppose to, hopefully not to many soldiers left inside. They looked at each other, this is it. They moved in. 

NK58 and Brody stood guard outside.

There was only one guard in the reception.

- Get those hands in the air. Meatgrinder shouted at him.

He looked nervously around the room. Then he went for his gun. Carl shoot him dead instantly. 

- Damn how are we gonna get open the security door now when he's dead? Asked Meatgrinder. 

- That's why Toto is here, computers and tech is his thing. Tom replied, and continued. 

- Get it open fast. With the shooting everyone that is left knows we're here now. He said looking at Toto.

Toto nodded his head and went to work at the computer. 

In a couple of minutes he got the door open. Carefully Tom looks inside but gets shoot at by a guard at the end of the corridor. 

- Move aside i got this. Meatgrinder said as he moved past Tom and let his heavy atomatic rifle rip. It was not much left of the guard when he stopped firing. 

Eddie looked suprised as Tom and the others came into the corridor.

- Tom what are you doing, are you nuts?

- I'm busting you out. We gonna leave the city as we talked about. Toto get the cell open. Orded Tom

- Hey what about me? They gonna send me as slave labour to those shanty towns too. A voice in the other cell said.

- We are not here for you so shout it. Said Carl.

Tom looked at the man. By the looks he was clearly a suit.

The brothers looked at each other. 

- Maybe we can have some use of him. Said Eddie.

Toto open both doors from the computer. Not long after that Brody comes into the reception.

- Trouble guys. They must have a silent alarm that they used because they are back in big numbers. They shoot NK58, no way we going out that way.

- Shit the only way is up. Toto get in here, but try to  jam the security door behind us so they can't  get it open to easy. that should buy us some time. Answerd Tom.

They moved for the stairs as they heard the soldiers enter the reception. 

-Move carefully we don't know how many are left upstairs. Said Eddie.

As they got up to the second floor, a guard fires through the door and hits Carl in the arm. Eddie patch him up. With the door gone they shoot down the guard and advance. 

- Hey can we trick them and go out here? Brody ask as he open a door. 

- NO STOP. Tom screamed. 

But it was to late. The soldiers outside had already opend fire on Brody and he fell to his death. 

- Idiot, we need to get out at a diffrent way, not were they get in. Said Meatgrinder

- You out there drop your weapons, you're surrounded. Shouts a soldier from behind the other door.

- I got a grenade. said Carl.

- Sharing is caring. give it to him, said Eddie.

Carl opens the door a little and throws it in. A loud boom, the glass door breaks. They gets inside the room. 

There is only one door and it goes to a security room, where they keep weapons and evidence. 

- Great now what? asked Eddie.

They hear the soldiers downstairs have gotten into the corridor with the cells. Soon they will be upstairs. 

- You. the suit said looking at Toto. 

- Can you open this door? wow look at all crates with guns and stuff. Imagen coming home to the gang with that.

- Wake up, we need to get out of here. This is a jailbreak not a breakin. we are outnumbered and will get shoot if we stay. Said Tom

But the suit would not let it go.

- Kid,  Toto right? i gonna make you wealthy if you get me in there, so we can bring it to my gang. 

Toto started working on the door. Meatgrinder just shock his head. Eddie had been staring at the wall since they got into the room.

- Tom look at this. There is a tear in the wall from the explosion. Maybe that heavy atomatic gun can make a hole that we can get through? 

- Ok move a side boys and let's find out, said Meatgrinder and started firing.

Carl shoots at the soldiers that now has come up stairs, while Tom push down a soda machine to block their path.

- Come on guys it's working we can get out of here. Shouts Eddie.

They all go through the wall except for Toto and the suit. Tom starts to say something but Meatgrinder push him aside. 

- They have made their choice. He said. Iditots you never get out alive, he say as they leave the police station. 

The hole leads into an ruined building, that they move through

Meatgrinder lead them to an alley. where he tells them how to go through the sewers to Dogtown.

- What about you? Tom asked.

- I'm going another way. hopefully for you they follow me instead. You payed me all up front so this is where our ways end. Good luck. Meatgrinder say as he turns around and run out of the alley. They go down the ladder and follow his instructions. Eventually they come up in another alley. Eddie have been in dogtown a bit before. And after looking around a while he knows where they are. They moves slowly trying to keep to alleys and back streets. to avoid the military. They arrive at the rendezvous but don't see anyone so they wait.

But they don't need to wait long. From out of the shadows some lurkers appears.

- Are you with "the Ghouls"? Tom ask.

- Yes, and i assume you are the three we're paid to smuggle out of the city? One of the Ghouls ask.

Tom only nods. The lurkers singals too follow him. They walk into a ruind house and stops at a pile of ruble.

Two of the lurkers start to move the ruble as the other keeps an look out for soldiers. Underneath is a hatch.

- Hurry up soldiers. One of the lurkers said. 

- From this side too. Another one said.

They open the hatch. One lurker goes first, Then Eddie. Just as Tom starts to climb down, he hear the shooting start and sees Carl fall to the ground. The lurkers close the hatch above him. 

- Carl did not make it. he said to Eddie when he gets down.

- Sorry for your friend but we have to continue. Said the lurker. 

They continue through the tunnels. It's like a maze. Some are very narrow, and some are really wide. After a long walk they arrive at a ladder. The lurker tells them to get up. It leads up around 300-400 meters from the city.

- Good luck too you. The lurker say before he close the hatchet over him.

Never been out of the city they just stand looking at the landscape, and the city skyline.

The sun started to rise. 

- Thanks Tom i never thought i see you again.

- You would have done the same for me, Answers Tom.

He looked at some of the flowers that growed in the sand. If they could surrvie out here in that harsh, dry earth so could he and Eddie.

- Let's get moving there are patrols around the city, let's put some distance beetween us and them.

Eddie nods his head.
